It’s Even Good Enough to Drink
Bruce Blunt Sr. is easy to spot at almost any Citrus Bowl game. Standing alongside his grill and a stack of colorful sauce bottles, Blunt passes out hot wings and samples of the hand-tooled creations he calls Mr. Bojack’s sauces, and people snap them up and ask for more.
“I love connecting with people,” says the 52-year-old Blunt, who friends have called Bojack for years. Mr. Bojack’s has been showing up in the shelves of local markets such as Petty’s Meat Market and Choice Meats since January of last year.
My favorite is the Twisted BBQ sauce, a combination of Bojack’s mustard and Original sauces that is so complex in taste that it transcends the barbecue category and puts Blunt on a par with the legendary Cajun chef and sauce master, Paul Prudhomme.
Bojack’s hot sauce, made with cayenne and white peppers and garlic, is closer to Asian sriracha than Tabasco, and the Slappin Sauce (“I put it on everything but cereal,” Blunt says), with a taste somewhere between teriyaki and A.1. Steak Sauce, is so tempting that I saw someone actually drink it straight out of the bottle.
