Choice Selections
These days the multitudinous variety of rolls available from full-service sushi places just isn’t enough, so now there are choose-your-own adventure options. Choice is good.
Makis Place
528 S. Park Ave. Winter Park, 407-790-4592. makisplacewinterpark.com
Japanese sushi by way of Brazil, Makis (above) has cornered the hand-roll market in South America and is making inroads here. A generous cone of nori seaweed can be filled with cold or hot sushi makings, both familiar and unusual, ordered from a wide menu or with your choice of delights. The mustard salmon variety with cooked fish, capers, orange sauce and mustard is a highlight.
URoll Sushi
7685 E. Colonial Drive., Orlando, 407-730-9699. urollsushi.net
URoll adopts the fast casual approach to sushi: pick an 8-piece roll, rice bowl or salad base, add “proteins,” vegetable fillings, accent toppings and savory sauces, and the sushi makers will create your personal signature dish. Try the BBQ tuna with avocado and kimchee.
Sus Hi Eatstation

Roll, bowl or wrap—yes, sushi burritos are a thing. Eatstation has a fun, ninja vibe with gongs sounding and nicknames for customers, along with a large variety of ingredients (18 different sauces!). Tempura chicken, coconut and sweet sriracha sounds tempting.
