The Movers Orlando Trusts

We recently moved our offices in Downtown Orlando. OMC made it easy!

FROM A BUSINESS THAT STARTED IN 2015 WITH $100 AND some fliers, Orlando Moving Co. has grown into a hometown enterprise known for its highly efficient, reasonably priced, customer-focused service. Having moved more than 5,000 residential and commercial customers and earned glowing re-views, Orlando Moving Co. is living up to founder Trey Simpson’s philosophy of serving clients “with a spirit of excellence.”

That spirit guides every aspect of his business, from customers’ interaction with Orlando Moving Co. to the way he hires his employees. “Our platform is digital so customers can always reach us,” Simpson says. “We keep in touch with customers  via email and text.” Once customers provide details about their move on the company’s website or by phone, Simpson determines how many trucks and movers will be needed, and customers can receive their free estimate via phone, company website, Facetime or in person. His sales and social media teams work together “so we’re all on the same level trying to give the best service,” he says. The company specializes in moving seniors and helping customers with downsizing and offers a 10 percent discount to seniors and veterans.

Simpson seeks excellence in his employees by paying more than the going rate. “I won’t hire just anybody for the sake of saving a dollar,” he says. “We don’t hire day laborers. We want to make sure everyone is trained and following the system that Orlando Moving Co. has put in place.” That includes attention to detail and step-by-step instructions for protecting customers’ belongings. “We use a three-tier wrap on delicate items. If some-body has a china cabinet, we don’t just put a blanket on it. We use a blanket, then put corrugated cardboard around the glass, and then use shrink wrap to maintain the integrity of the piece. His movers receive two to three weeks of training in the system Simpson devised. “We do peer training,” he says, and “each per-son is overseen to make sure they’re doing it the correct way.”

Simpson, 48, has over 30 years of moving experience. At 16, he started working for his stepmother in her high-end furniture store. But the Flint, Mich., native was always entrepreneurial. He had managed a call center and owned a mortgage company be-fore going to work for a moving company, where he saw some practices he knew he could improve upon. “I said I was going to start my own moving company and bring a different level of customer service to it.”

He also wanted to go to school, so as he was starting and growing Orlando Moving Co., Simpson completed an online bachelor’s degree in digital marketing from Full Sail University. That was in 2014. “Three weeks after graduating,” he says, “I decided to go back and get my master’s degree in innovation and entrepreneurship,” a Full Sail online degree he received in 2016. In the meantime, his sheer hustle was growing Orlando Moving Co. “I hit the streets, talking to Realtors, U-Haul companies, banks—anything I could do to get the word out.” In 2016 Simpson began advertising his company on Yelp! and Facebook.

As his business has prospered, Simpson has focused on his short-term goals: adding six or eight trucks by next summer and expanding the number of movers he employs. As for his long-term goals? “We have a plan, and that’s to provide the best service we possibly can.”
