We like to joke that we were definitely meant to be—because our second date almost didn’t happen.
At the time we met, we were both busy focusing on our children and our careers. Dating wasn’t exactly at the top of the priority list, and second chances felt even less likely. One date, one misstep, and you were done. We were cautious.
Then, a few years ago, a mutual friend thought we should meet and stepped in to make it happen. She arranged a blind double-date dinner for the cautious singles with her and her husband.
After the date, Lou asked our friend for my number so he could plan a second outing. With my permission, she happily passed it along… except she accidentally gave him my old cell phone number!
Lou texted asking for that second date—and waited, and waited . . . for three months with absolutely no response. From my perspective, he had simply disappeared.
Eventually our friend asked if I’d heard from Lou. When I said no, she checked with him, only to discover what had happened. Once we realized the mix-up, Lou reached out again—this time to the correct phone—and we finally scheduled that second date.
The rest, as they say, is history.
