“He’s quiet. He’s polite. He’s everything a $40 million man shouldn’t be. And he may be the best thing that’s happened to Orlando since they invented orange juice.”

“Now Orlando has a chance to be something beyond a repetitive, albeit innocuous, listing in the back of the sports section. The Orlando Magic has the chance to become a winner. Not an overnight, instant winner, but a winner (which America clearly loves).

Shaquille O’Neal can give Orlando’s national image a better focus…

Shaq has a chance to become a nationally famous personality on the order of a Michael Jordan or a Joe Montana. What he chooses to do with all that fame is, of course, critical. If all that money and fame doesn’t corrupt him, he will be a rare individual indeed. Wars have been fought for much less money. The average person would become a complete jerk within 30 days of depositing his first paycheck. But it is clear that Shaquille O’Neal is not the average person.”

(Note: Shaq led the Magic to the 1995 NBA finals, where they lost in 4 games to the Houston Rockets. After the 1995-96, season he left Orlando for the Los Angeles Lakers.)
