What’s Wrong with this Picture?

The question above might come to mind as you study this image by Orlando photographer Chris Casler. To begin with, the Dr. Phillips building, in downtown Orlando on Robinson Street between Orange Avenue and the railroad tracks, is an unusual powder blue. Add to that the pink sky (which Casler sweetened) and the eerie bricked-up windows, and you’ve got an unlikely juxtaposition that brings to the photographer’s mind the work of surrealist painter René Magritte. As Casler was getting ready to take this shot—on a spring day, a few years back—one final incongruous element fell into place. “Suddenly, a man rode into the scene on a bicycle, and voilà!” he says. “It made my day.” |
