Friday:

Opening Night and Pre-Show Party – Orlando Shakes – 6:15 p.m.

Like the classic movie with the same name, the story is set in Truvy's beauty salon in Chinquapin, Louisiana, where anyone who is anyone comes to get their hair done. Cinderella Preview – Orlando Museum of Art – 1:30 p.m.

Latin Jazz Nights – Timucua White House – 7:30 p.m.

Concluding the series, one of the most important exponents of the Cuban piano jazz style, Hernandez is a purveyor of world-class Latin music with a strong jazz flavor. For more info: timucua.com

Dragon Parade & Lunar New Year Festival – Fashion Square Mall – 11 a.m.

Start off the Year of the Dog with a bang. Parade begins at 11 a.m.; festival begins at noon with Asian food, arts, cultural performances and live music. For more info: centralfloridadragonparade.org

Jewish Book Festival – Writers Block Bookstore – 11:15 a.m. to 3 p.m.

In partnership with The Roth Family Jewish Community Center of Greater Orlando, four Jewish authors Michelle Edwards, Paul Goldberg, Pam Jenoff and Justin Loeber will be present for a series of special events throughout the day. For tickets and more info: facebook.com/events

Purim Carnival – Congregation of Reform Judaism – 12:30 to 3:30 p.m.

It's Orlando’s only community-wide Purim celebration. Enjoy the rides and attractions, carnival games, costume parade, craft and activities led by CRJ youth staff, photo booth, and lots of treats for purchase, including various flavors of dipped Hamantashen. Violin Concert – Polasek Museum – 2 to 4 p.m.

Internationally acclaimed violin and viola player Dr. Ayako Yonetani and a variety of guest instrumentalists perform. Held in the elegant Capen-Showalter House, concert-goers experience acoustic perfection in an intimate setting. The performance is followed by a private reception. Limited to 45 seats. Downtown Food & Wine Fest – Lake Eola – Sat & Sun

Concertos by Candlelight – Rollins College – Fri to Sun

Knowles Chapel comes alive with an evening of sublime melodies and exciting virtuosic concertos featuring Hummel’s Trumpet Concerto, the rarely heard Romanze for Viola by Max Bruch, the dramatic Cello Concerto in A Minor by Saint-Saëns, and the world premiere of Daniel Crozier’s Concerto for Two Clarinets—all accompanied by the Bach Festival Orchestra.
