Erika Grace

“It’s important to me to learn as much as possible about my couple’s wedding details and their expectations upfront. So my initial contact starts with an online form, asking specific questions and discussing potential concerns early in the process, such as knowing the best time to shoot outdoor portraits and making sure the time of the ceremony does not conflict with the amount of sunlight needed for photography. Knowing the couple’s vision impacts their experience greatly in terms of how I am meeting their expectations.

“I believe that having transparency in expectations, paired with my warm personality, sets my photography services apart. It’s important to be attentive to the couple’s friends and family members, too. I’m always honored to be a part of their lives for a day.

“From planning for outdoor portrait lighting to designing a tentative photography timeline, it all comes together for a memorable experience.”

The Chaos Coordinator

Shadow Anderson

“For this shoot, Erika Grace Photography and I collaborated on creating a timeless yet modern style that would reflect customizable details and hues of blush, mauve, pale dogwood and rose gold. We wanted to showcase the versatility of the venue’s beautiful rotunda and took our inspiration from the greenery surrounding the space.”
Anderson’s wedding consultations begin with discussing the couple’s needs and must-haves. “We pride ourselves in establishing personal relationships with our couples whether they have us for coordination or full planning,” she says.
Trends Anderson sees for 2020: eco-conscious weddings, small guest counts, broad color schemes, and mixing textures from linens to florals to tabletop décor. “Ultimately, couples are looking to create an experience for their guests that reflects their personal aesthetic and authenticity.”

“Couples are leaning more toward a touch of modern ‘wow’ factors like circular and hexagon-shaped arches. We created this circular arch on site, adding hydrangea, roses, lisianthus, spray roses and greenery until we achieved the desired fullness.”

As for bridal bouquets, Forrest says, “the cascade bouquet is back! For this shoot, I added extra fullness and length for some drama—more is more!”

He adds, “When you transition from ceremony to reception, you see the flowers and décor doing the same, with tall centerpieces using the trailing floral. Topping the vase with an arrangement that spills down to more flowers around the base brings the whole look together for an edgy, yet classic look.”

Forrest prefers to meet his clients in person to understand their vision. “Once I know the direction their style is heading, I can make suggestions on how to achieve that with what’s available for the season and keep it within their budget. Because we’re a smaller boutique florist, we offer a more personalized approach for our couples. No cookie- cutter packages that are a point-and-choose option.”

Trends Forrest sees for 2020: “Lesser-known flowers are being used, like proteas and succulents, along with greenery and textural items like pampas grass. Couples also are repurposing floral from the ceremony to the reception, which we always encourage—reduce, reuse, repurpose!”

About Face Design Team

Kari Larsen

For daytime, the About Face Design Team created a “Natural Glam” look—not dramatic or overdone, but soft and clean. “We did a subtle smoky eye with a little bit of shimmer and nude lip—a simple, classic and elegant look to enhance the bride’s natural beauty,” Larsen says. “The hair was kept natural to complement the elegance and grace of the entire look.”

For evening, a beauty look was created to exaggerate the bride’s features. “We took the daytime look and added more of a dramatic ‘winged’ eye and stronger berry lip color to be a bit more bold, yet elegant. Her natural hair was then pulled out and up and overemphasized into a type of ‘fauxhawk’ to highlight the headpiece.”

Trends Larsen is seeing for 2020: “For spring and summer weddings, brides are requesting everything from ‘Natural Glam’ and ‘Hollywood Glam’ [a natural look for the foundation minus heavy concealing and contouring, with a dewy rosy cheek] to ‘Retro Glam’ and ‘Vintage Glam’ [a dramatic eye, and either a soft nude or rosy lip, to a bold, matte red or plum lip].”

Sugar Sugar Cake Boutique

Danielle Cribb

The four-tier confection Sugar Sugar created for this wedding shoot illustrates the current trends in cakes. “We thought it would be a great way to incorporate the marbled look mixed with a metallic-looking layer and a pop of color,” Cribb says. “Typically, you see the color come in on the floral, but we loved that this vision of floral was more of a simple look of just greenery and white accents. This gave us the ability to bring the color to life on the cake.”

Trends Cribb is seeing for 2020: “The naked cake and/or the simple textured buttercream is still a popular design. We are also seeing that the marbled design and the watercolor look are still going strong. Couples are definitely wanting to be as budget-friendly as possible, so we are seeing more smaller-tiered cakes of two to three tiers and couples feeding the remainder of their guests with kitchen cakes.”
