 I Am My Own Wife

Winner of the 2004 Pulitzer Prize for drama, Doug Wright’s play tells of his fascination with the life of Charlotte von Mahlsdorf, a German transvestite who survived the Nazis and the Soviet secret police in East Germany. The Matchmaker

Before Hello, Dolly high-kicked across Broadway stages, this predecessor by Thornton Wilder was a hit in its own right. In the original, as in the musical, indomitable Dolly Levi is determined to bring love into the world. The farce features characters hiding under tables and in closets, men disguised as women, a conspiracy to bring young lovers together and, of course, a happy ending.
