The Ultimate Epic Universe Guide: How To Train Your Dragon—Isle of Berk
This is Berk. It snows nine months of the year, and hails the other three.

BERK IS THE FIRST PORTAL YOU’LL ENCOUNTER SHOULD YOU HEAD RIGHT FROM THE MAIN PARK ENTRANCE. It’s also the biggest world in Epic Universe. Covering 15.5 acres and utilizing 162,500 square feet of rockwork, you’ll step into a larger-than-life Viking village. But this is no ordinary Viking village; this Isle has fire-breathing dragons! With five attractions, there is so much to do on the Isle of Berk. Guests can also meet Hiccup and Toothless at the Haddock Paddock.
As you stroll around Berk, you may meet some of your favorite Vikings and dragons. You may even catch a glimpse of dragons flying high above the village. But let’s start with the rides.
FUN FACT: The Isle of Berk contains 119 buckets, 175 barrels, 168 crates, 151 feed sacks, 115 books and 120 baskets. Some of these can be spotted in the Viking Training Camp.

What to Ride in Isle of Berk
Hiccup’s Wing Gliders
This roller coaster gives you a dragons-eye view of the Isle of Berk, and weaves you through several areas, over water and over guests. Reaching 45 mph at top speed, it’s thrilling but manageable for those who may not love the idea of a coaster.
FUN FACT: The Gronckle eggshell seen on Hiccup’s Wing Gliders weighs as much as 84 large chicken eggs, which is about 13 pounds.
Dragon Racer’s Rally
Where was this ride at the county fair when we were growing up? While reminiscent of a carnival ride, Dragon Racer’s Rally is smoother and more nuanced. Here, riders train to be champion dragon racers. Berk’s new Vikings can practice aerobatic maneuvers and high-speed barrel rolls on a Viking-made dragon riding trainer. You’ll need these high-flying, gravity-defying, swooping and soaring skills if you hope to become a champion dragon racer. If spinning isn’t your thing, sit this one out.
Fyre Drill
The only water ride in Epic Universe, Fyre Drill is a fun, slow-moving interactive water-battle. It seems some of Hiccup’s friends have transformed Berk’s Fyre Skööl into a watery, interactive boat battle at sea. Guests board their ship in Fyre Drill and blast their water cannons at flame-like targets—and the occupants of every other boat—to out-soak other Vikings.
The Untrainable Dragon
The other show at Epic Universe, and our team’s favorite, is The Untrainable Dragon. It’s a welcome reprieve from the heat, and a great opportunity to catch a dragon-studded live spectacular. The plot: When a new dragon shows up on the Isle of Berk, the Vikings think they may have finally met their match. Hiccup and Toothless, with help from Gobber and Astrid, work together to solve the mystery of The Untrainable Dragon. You’ll experience the wonder of dragons onstage and soaring overhead in this spectacular, music-filled, heart-warming live show. Bring those tissues, Vikings.
The Isle of Berk is also home to the only play area in Epic. At Viking Training Camp, junior Vikings will discover all types of dragons in this sprawling, colorful and interactive play area. Adventures include multiple towers to climb and explore, a fun agility course, Viking drums and chimes to play, an interactive sheep launcher game, plus slides and activities for the youngest Vikings.
Where to Eat in Isle of Berk

Feasts Fit for a Warrior
There are three spots in Berk to grab some grub: Mead Hall, the Spit Fyre Grill and Hooligan’s Grog & Gruel. Of the three, only Mead Hall offers air-conditioned seating. We recommend Mead Hall for anyone needing a Viking feast during their visit.
The massive Mead Hall is Berk’s main gathering place, a grand chamber hewn from mountain rock where Vikings chow down on a hearty menu including the sizable Thawfest Platter, a grand spread of tender chicken drumsticks glazed in a wild berry BBQ glaze, grilled salmon and succulent sausage served with a medley of roasted carrots, cipollini onions, Nordic fries and side sauces.
Save room for dessert, because Mead Hall offers the arguably cutest dessert at Epic, Stormfly’s Catch of the Day. This happy fish-like dessert features a chocolate mousse fish nestled atop a bed of colorful crispy rice cereal, creating a delightful combination of creamy and crunchy sweetness.
Perfect for Vikings and hungry dragons alike.
At Spit Fyre Grill, you’ll get a view of the Fyre Drill ride under a shaded canopy. You may also spot an ice-breathing dragon lurking nearby.
Spit Fyre offers several bowl meals, but the most popular item here are the Mac and Cheese cones. Choose from classic, PB and J or the Dragon Fire Chicken Spire.
