Doggie Derby
This annual event, which features canines pairing off against one another in 25-yard sprints, happens every spring at Baldwin Park’s Canine Commons. Check for updates 

Pawsitive Action Agility
Join the fun in this Canine Performance Events (CPE) sanctioned agility trail. Dogs run, jump and climb over obstacles at the direction of their handler. Oct. 16-18 from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. at the Pawsitive Action Agility Home Field., Orlando.

4th Annual Wienerfest
This leashed-dog-friendly event, sponsored by Florida Dachshund Rescue, features food trucks, a doggie costume contest and dachshund races. Oct. 17 from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. at Orlando Festival Park.

Bird Showcase
The largest “all exotic bird event” in Florida, featuring breeders with birds for sale, plus cages, food, toys and more. Oct 18 from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. at Central Florida Fairgrounds, Orlando.

Furball: Pets Ahoy!
The 24th annual fundraiser, presented by SeaWorld Orlando, celebrates the rescued dog and cat stars in the park’s Pets Ahoy! show. Highlights include dinner, auctions, and an animal hero award presentation. Nov. 7 at SeaWorld Orlando. 

AKC/Eukanuba National Championship
The annual show returns, with thousands of dogs competing and hundreds of breeds represented. Dec. 12-13 at the Orange County Convention Center, Orlando.

Paws In The Park
Orlando’s largest pet walk and festival attracts more than 12,000 people and pets to Lake Eola Park in downtown Orlando. This event benefits Pet Alliance of Greater Orlando. Feb. 13 from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. at Lake Eola Park, Orlando.

Did You Know 
At Tihar, an annual five-day Hindu festival celebrated in Nepal, the second day is dedicated solely to giving thanks to dogs for their companionship, service and loyalty. The canines—whether pets, police dogs or strays—are adorned with garlands, and a temporary colored mark of honor is applied to each animal’s forehead.

Going Green

Through September, 19 businesses along Park Avenue in Winter Park are showcasing topiaries of pets and wildlife. All the creations are for sale and the proceeds will benefit Winter Park Lost Pets, helping reunite lost family members and their owners, along with the Sebastian Haul Fund, which helps find homes for retired greyhound racers. The dog breeds represented in green include bulldog, Jack Russell Terrier, Chihuahua and Golden Retriever. For more information:
