Did You Know
At Tihar, an annual five-day Hindu festival celebrated in Nepal, the second day is dedicated solely to giving thanks to dogs for their companionship, service and loyalty. The canines—whether pets, police dogs or strays—are adorned with garlands, and a temporary colored mark of honor is applied to each animal’s forehead.

Going Green

Through September, 19 businesses along Park Avenue in Winter Park are showcasing topiaries of pets and wildlife. All the creations are for sale and the proceeds will benefit Winter Park Lost Pets, helping reunite lost family members and their owners, along with the Sebastian Haul Fund, which helps find homes for retired greyhound racers. The dog breeds represented in green include bulldog, Jack Russell Terrier, Chihuahua and Golden Retriever. For more information: thedoggiedoor.com
