PETS IN WEDDINGS: If you’re a pet lover and you’re getting married, then you’ve probably considered making your four-legged friend a part of your big day. For many owners, pets ARE family members. Pets in weddings is a popular trend that’s gaining steam and credibility, as more and more people want to include their pet family members in some form or fashion. But before running out to buy diamond-studded collars and custom-made tuxedos (doggie-sized of course), there are a few things to consider. First, conform that your venues, both ceremony and reception, will allow it. Some churches and other venues have pet restrictions, so you might have to consider alternate locations. Secondly, if you want to use your pet as a ring bearer or attendant, make sure your pet is capable of playing such an important role. Third, consider your pet’s temperament and behavior: Will he/she be able to handle things like crowds and loud music. Just because your dog is mellow doesn’t necessarily mean he/she will be the most well-behaved dog (cat, horse, bird, etc.) in a noisy, crowded, unfamiliar setting. Finally, find an adult friend or family member or hire a pet concierge service provider, such as Bow Wow Vows (, who is willing to be responsible for and handle your pet before, during and after the ceremony and/or reception. This way you can have the best of both worlds, with your pets included and you free to enjoy your wedding day. Using a pet wedding concierge service helps take the responsibility off any guest or family member who should also enjoy the festivities and allows a professional to handle your pet. Bow Wow Vows, a service of Dog Walking Diva, specializes in making your pets an integral part of your big day. Bow Wow Vows offers wedding packages that include coordination of pets into the wedding/events, chauffer services to and from wedding events, day-of grooming and bridal styling, all-day handling and a special doggie basket of treats and toys at the end of the day. CELEBRITY WEDDINGS: As most of you already know, Kim Kardashian married Kris Humphries at a private estate in Montecito, CA, on Saturday, August 20, 2011, going through three Vera Wang dress changes and a small fortune to create that happily-ever-after she always wanted. So I’m curious, in a celebrity-centric society, how does an event like this affect the average every-day bride? Rumors have it, Kim spent over $20,000 just on their wedding cake, which was themed after Prince William and Kate’s at the Royal wedding reception. Some might say that’s a drop in the bucket, given the cool million-plus she and her groom were paid by People magazine for exclusive photos rights of the event.
To brides in the Central Florida area, I’m eager to know what you think, and I want to hear from you. Does an event like this simply act as an excellent idea generator, do you feel the need to have a celebrity status wedding, do you feel a need to heighten the opulence of your own wedding or do you just enjoy looking at the exorbitant lavishness? More importantly, do you think over-the-top weddings have people focusing more on the party-planning side of things instead of what the event is really about? You know, that thing called love and joining your lives together as husband and wife. After I hear from you, I’ll try to focus on some of the things you like about celebrity weddings and bring it back to you on a local level, and even on a budget. I look forward to hearing from you. Please email
