Ly T. Nguyen, MD

Dr. Ly Nguyen’s introduction to ophthalmology began with difficult news: her father needed cataract surgery. At the time, she was a medical student at the University of Hawai’i John A. Burns School of Medicine, still undecided on her specialty. Meeting her father’s surgeon, the late Dr. Jorge Camara, proved pivotal, ultimately shaping her path in ophthalmology.

Under Dr. Camara’s mentorship, Dr. Nguyen developed a strong foundation in research and publication. She co-authored peer-reviewed articles on topics including involutional lateral entropion in Asian patients and the use of computer-assisted imageguided systems (InstaTrak) in orbital surgery. She also published research on public health issues affecting Vietnamese immigrants in Hawai’i.

She went on to complete her ophthalmology residency at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center, where she received the Resident Research Award. Afterward, she moved to West Palm Beach and worked at Mittleman Eye Center before opening her own practice, St. Cloud Eye Center—later renamed Eye Florida—to serve an underserved Central Florida community.

A board-certified ophthalmologist, Dr. Nguyen specializes in customized cataract surgery with premium intraocular lenses, oculoplastics, and minimally invasive glaucoma surgery. Her practice also offers comprehensive services, including advanced diagnostics, corneal and retinal screenings, and aesthetic treatments—all centered on exceptional patient care.

An internationally recognized physician, author, and speaker, Dr. Nguyen has been published in leading journals and was named one of the Top 50 Women to KNOW in Florida (2025). She has also received honors including the Patient’s Choice Award and Compassionate Doctor Recognition.
Outside of work, she enjoys time with family, reading, traveling, and gardening. She hopes to one day write a memoir about her family’s journey escaping Vietnam. Reflecting on her work, she shares, “I love it when patients say, ‘I can see the world again.’ I want them to have the same experience my father did.”
