Lonely Street

With her pearls, white gloves, high heels, fancy frock and vintage hat, the lady may seem, at first glance, to embody an antique ideal of elegance. But wait a minute. Is that a bowling bag she’s reaching for? And wait another minute. She isn’t even human.

“I do a lot of stuff that has some manikins in it,” says Ryan Marchina of Winter Park, who adds that they are “easy to shoot” because they never have any trouble holding still for the picture. He happened upon this odd scene several months ago, in front of Orlando’s Déjà Vu Vintage Clothing, and just had to capture it.

For Marchina, the emptiness of that stretch of North Orange Avenue was also an attraction. The photo almost seems to be saying: Imagine a street so lonely that the only person on it isn’t really a person.
