Kid’s Table Inspiration

Amuse the little ones at your wedding.

The kid’s table serves a simple purpose: to keep children at an event entertained and in one place. Preparing for these mini-guests will ensure that guests of all ages will happily enjoy your wedding reception. Here are some fun ideas that will keep them occupied:

Disposable cameras: Typically from $6 to $12 each, the cameras make taking pictures an easy, fun activity for the kids to take on. Consider leaving nametags with the cams that say “Wedding Photographer” – they’ll feel special to have received such a special honor. Get their film developed and you’re sure to discover an interesting perspective of your wedding. 10 Pack Soft White Rose Wedding Disposable 35mm Cameras, $32.99, amazon.com
Ring Bearer/Flower Girl coloring books: Give them a treat by customizing their very own coloring book. They’ll be thrilled to see their name on the front, plus the inside will keep them occupied for hours. Take this idea one step further and put a paper tablecloth on their table for extra coloring fun. Stick to crayons and colored pencils – you don’t want marker ending up on anyone’s gown. Ring Security Personalized Coloring Activity Book & Crayon Set, $12.95, personalizationmall.com
Candy table: What do kids love more than candy? Set up a colorful selection of fun treats for them to gather in goody bags to take home. Novelty sweets like giant lollipops will also make for great laughs in a photobooth. Just be weary of sticky hands! Psychedelic Swirl 7-Inch Lollipops 2-Piece Box, $15, candywarehouse.com
Sitters: Hiring from within your wedding guests is a great option if you happen to have a teenage guest looking for a little extra cash. And if you decide to hire a babysitter to entertain (and maintain) the kiddos at your reception, make sure your guests with children are made aware so they don’t feel the need to leave their little ones at home.

And finally, don't forget to include them. It’s easy to forget how excited they are because of how exited you are. Keep them busy through the less-than kid-friendly portions of the reception, such as the first dances and the speeches, but encourage them to Twist and Shout and Electric Slide – after they wash their hands – alongside everyone else.
