For Jane Kirven, 39 is a lucky number. Jane, had optimistically ventured out on 38 blind dates before her introduction to John Mark Ramsey on the Fourth of July in 2008. The fireworks must have been a good harbinger of things to come, because Jane, a manager in a private equity company, never had another blind date. In March, Jane, 31, departed on a mysterious trip to California that John Mark, 39, a health care executive, arranged but didn’t accompany her on the first leg of it. When she arrived, he was there to greet her in a Mustang convertible, and the two drove up the coast to Pebble Beach. It was there, with the backdrop of the Lone Cypress Tree, that John Mark got down on one knee and proposed. “I gave an emphatic ‘YES!’ ” recalls Jane.
