Former Sheriff Beary Goes to Kabul

In our March issue, former Orange County Sheriff Kevin Beary said that he hoped to continue his law-enforcement career either as a teacher at the FBI academy in Virginia or as a counter-terrorism adviser with a private contractor in Afghanistan. Soon after we went to press, Beary, 51, accepted a position with DynCorp as a counter-terrorism adviser to the Afghan government, said his wife, Rebekah. Then he packed two pieces of luggage and traveled to Kabul. Beary’s wife added that he likely would be stationed overseas for at least a year while she and their two youngest children would remain home in Apopka. “He put so many hours in being sheriff,” said Rebekah, “that it wasn’t like a total cultural shock to us of him being gone.”
