For Dads, Fun and Functionality
You can’t go wrong with gadgets, golf and a goof as Father’s Day presents.
1. Midnight Moon Moonshine
You don’t have to enter the underworld of bootlegging to buy moonshine for Dad, even if only as a gag gift. Junior Johnson’s Midnight Moon Carolina Moonshine (750 ml, $17.99; juniorsmidnightmoon.com), a family recipe made by the NASCAR driver of the same name, is 40 percent alcohol by volume, so it’s not as potent as the real white lightning, but at least it’s legal.
2. iPad 2
Apple’s hot-selling iPad is by far the best touch-screen tablet on the market. The iPad 2 ($499-$699; apple.com) adds faster performance and dual cameras, all in a thinner form factor than its predecessor. Be sure to add the $40 magnetic “Smart Cover” for that extra “wow” factor. Apple Stores are in The Altamonte Mall, The Mall at Millenia and The Florida Mall.
3. Rockwell Rotary Hammer
This Rockwell H3 3-Function SDS Rotary Hammer ($180; rockwell toolsdirect.com) 12V cordless power tool would be a great addition to Dad’s tool box. It’s capable of drilling ¼-inch holes into concrete, and it also features a three-in-one quick change chuck system for rapidly switching between rotary hammer drill, conventional three-jaw drill or power screwdriver.
4. Motorola Atrix 4G with Lapdock
Dad can turn his smartphone into a laptop with the Android-based Atrix and Lapdock by Motorola (motorola.com). Sold by AT&T, the Atrix ($199.99 with two-year contract) turns into a full-fledged laptop, complete with larger screen and physical keyboard, when coupled with the Lapdock ($500 with phone after rebate).
5. TaylorMade Corza Ghost Putter
This putter would make a nice surprise for Dad as he watches the final round of the U.S. Open on Father’s Day. With three black alignment lines and a circular hole for a secondary alignment aid, TaylorMade’s Corza Ghost Putter ($160; taylormade golf.com) is specifically designed to help a golfer line up with one-putt accuracy.
