DORA MAE CUSTOM JEWELRY & CAKE CANVAS KEEPSAKES
DOR MAE CUSTOM JEWELRY: Dora Mae jewelry designer, Ansley Schrimsher, got the idea to give a fresh and modern look to vintage jewelry after receiving her grandmother’s 50-year collection of antique pieces. Her goal is to take a beautifully existing piece and artistically rejuvenate it. After catching the attention of area brides with her amazing work, she established the Marry Mae collection. One-of-a-kind antique jewelry pieces can be made for the bride and/or her wedding party. Note the necklaces the bridesmaids are wearing in the picture; each is unique, but all work well together. Schrimsher prefers to meet with each bride to discuss their personal style and vision for the jewelry. She can do anything from Victorian to mid-century modern. Each piece is unique and cannot be duplicated – but that’s the appeal of Dora Mae. Brides can bring their own piece(s) of jewelry to have it enhanced/modified, or they can gain inspiration from some of Dora Mae’s previous works. Be sure to allow ample time for ordering, especially if you’re having multiple pieces custom-made. Visit www.DoraMaeJewelry.com <http://www.DoraMaeJewelry.com> and click the “Past” tab to see some work samples. Dora Mae jewelry is also sold in Orlando and Winter Park boutiques, such as Sultre Boutique, Tugboat & the Bird, Zou Zou Boutique, Nest Home, Lulu Belle Baby Boutique and Blue Door Denim Shoppe. Average pricing ranges from $50-$150 per piece but varies on scope of desired work and quantity. For consultations, contact Schrimsher directly at ansley@doramaejewelry.com
CAKE CANVAS: Wedding keepsakes are important to brides, especially after the honeymoon is over and the wedding gown has been put away. While photos are the most obvious, there are other unique and creative mementos to mark the special day, including cake canvases. The Sugar Suite, one of Orlando’s premiere specialty wedding cake bakeries, has developed a one-of-a-kind cake canvas that will last long beyond your wedding day. The wedding cake is a beautiful piece of art that gets quickly dismantled and devoured by wedding guests in what seems like minutes. A cake canvas can preserve the image of your wedding cake as a keepsake. In the photo, the actual wedding cake is on left and the cake canvas is on the right. The canvases are made of fondant, royal icing, gum paste, luster dust and a shellac coating then placed in a shadow box so that it can be properly displayed. The Sugar Suite can also take other wedding “materials,” such as flower petals from the bride’s bouquet, and easily incorporate them into the canvas to add a whole other level of personalization. Each Cake Canvas retails from $125 to $350, depending on size, and takes about 2 to 6 weeks to create.
