Dexter’s New Standard Offers Virtual Wine Dinners
We participated in their first virtual wine dinner, and it was a delight!
We tried the first Virtual Wine Dinner offered by Dexter’s New Standard and Tim’s Wine Market! Don’t worry, you can participate in the next one on May 8 (it features an Italian themed menu.).
The idea is simple: Order your dinner for two in advance, pick it up the afternoon of the event, and join the Instagram Live at the designated time. When we arrived, we were greeted curbside and received our order promptly. We were surprised how heavy the bag was! Inside the bag were carefully prepared courses ready to plate. The dinner included instructions on prep and plating, as well as information about each course, and the wine we’d be enjoying with it. The only prep work required was a little tomato slicing.
The First Course
With time to spare we chilled the wine and began plating the courses. Let’s start with the cheese and charcuterie. We provided the board; they provided the rest. The cured meats and artisan cheeses were paired with whole grain mustard, pickled vegetables, house made granola, crackers & crostinis. We fought over the crostini! It was a very filling board, and easy to plate.
The Second Course
Then we got on Instagram and joined the live feed at 7:00 p.m. Tim guided us through the wines and the second course, a deconstructed Greek salad with the biggest, freshest heirloom tomatoes from Waterkist Farms, a feta mousse (more on that in a second), cucumbers, pickled red onions, Kalamata olives, oregano, and EVOO. When I started plating the salad, I tasted the feta mousse; big mistake. It was so delicious that I had accidentally eaten about half of it before it ever saw a plate. Whoops! Tim paired both courses with a 2016 Chanzy Bouzeron Aligote. Perfection! We listened to Tim discuss the wine choices, talk about each course, and his daughters’ plating skills. What more can we say, the company was great!
The Main Course
Dexter’s New Standard and Tim’s Wine Market saved the best for last: a Braised Short Rib paired with a 2017 Chateau Laplagnotte Bellevue. The short ribs were accompanied by sunchoke puree, spring peas, grilled spring onion chimichurri, an outstanding demi-glace and herbs. The ribs were incredibly tender and flavorful, and we could not get enough of the sunchoke puree.
The food and entertainment were so good we did not want it to end! It was intimate and elevated, sophisticated yet casual! We want to thank both Dexter’s New Standard and Tim’s Wine Market for having us.
And join us for their next Virtual Wine Dinner on Friday, May 8. Reserve your spot before May 6 by calling 407-895-9463.
