Devine Valentine
Ah, the Day O’ Love approaches. For those looking to treat their date to something out of the ordinary, here’s an idea that came across my desk:
GET FRESH WITH YOUR VALENTINE IN AN INTERACTIVE AND EDIBLE FANTASY
WORLD
— Stimulate the Senses with Renowned Performance Group DRIP During
Their Culinary Performance Art Event Fresh at The Cameo Theatre —
ORLANDO, Fla. — For seven days this February,
Orlando-area residents and visitors alike can stimulate all of their
senses while being immersed in a Willy Wonka-like edible environment
as renowned performance art and dance group DRIP presents Fresh — a
culinary performance art event showcasing an edible and interactive
fantasy world of visual, dance and food art combined with a four-
course, hands-on dinner (and even couples body paint for the more
adventurous).
Occurring February 4-6 and February 11-14 at The Cameo Theatre located
in downtown Orlando, Fresh is an immersive and edible performance art
event specially created for the Valentine’s season.
“In 2007 we showcased Fresh as a special two-night performance during
ArtsFest and received an overwhelming response, with it being the
first event of the 300 plus area performances to sell out,” said
Jessica Mariko, DRIP creative director. “Now, with an expanded
schedule and new venue, we have grown Fresh to be an immersive
romantic play land that will stimulate all of the senses, allowing
couples to excite new flirtations or renew long-term love. We
guarantee that it will be an experience your valentine will not forget.”
Upon entering Fresh, couples will experience a Willy Wonka-like edible
fantasy world where they watch dancers perform with food, stroll
through an art and candy market, indulge in a four-course, hands-on
dinner and have the option of participating in a candlelit couples-
only body paint workshop, leaving hand-in-hand with their finished
piece of art.
Additional Fresh experience highlights include:
• A white winter garden with a champagne wishing well, guitar luge and
accompanying dance performance in a water box.
• Bohemian art and candy market featuring local visual artists and old
fashion candy and treats.
• Complimentary massage and henna art.
• Fantastical tree canopy with appetizer vines hanging from the
ceiling, an oil and vinegar pond and a colorful cupcake field.
• Aerial waterfall cube dance performance.
• Messy, colorful and unique performances with food throughout the
venue including an earthy dance performance in a large coffee mound,
fantastical fruits and juices raining on dancers and the surrounding
garden, a 10-foot waterfall and a screen-printing performance with
edible inks.
• A performance score composed by David Traver, the music director for
Blue Man Group Orlando.

About DRIP
DRIP was founded in 2006 after an experimental performance at the
Orlando International Fringe Theatre Festival. Jessica Mariko, an
Orlando choreographer, and Marla Mirabal, an Orlando visual artist,
teamed up to create a performance art experience with paint and
dance. The resulting feedback was so positive that Jessica Mariko
gathered dancers, choreographers, art directors and composers to found
a performance art company that combines performing and visual arts.
During DRIP performances, dancers create and often become visual art
themselves by blending movement, music, artistic mediums and props.
DRIP incorporates paint, charcoal, sand, culinary arts, black light
paints, projected liquid light and more. The group’s creators are
driven by inspiration and have been recognized for compelling sensory-
stimulated events, shows and performance art installations that excite
and move audiences.
Now with many renowned fans, DRIP has performed alongside Cirque du
Soleil and Blue Man Group at the 4th Annual Red Chair Affair, created
an original performance for WWE WrestleMania and performed at the
Orlando Shakespeare Theatre, Playground Magazine Launch, Wayne Dench
Arts Center, Bob Carr Performing Arts Centre, Create Chaos
International Conference, Blank Space Art Lounge and more.
DRIP is an artist-in-residence at The Center For Contemporary Dance,
TheCenterForDance.org, and produces their own ticketed events and
customized entertainment for special events.
