Chill Will
At Frosty’s, it’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas—every day of the year.
Orlando isn’t known for its frosty Christmases, but with the opening of Frosty’s Christmastime Lounge a few months ago, that may have changed. Providing downtown with a year-round yuletide celebration, the bar is owned by Todd Ulmer and Mark Angelo, who also co-own Mucho Tequila and Tacos, Aku Aku Tiki Bar, and Stardust Lounge. When asked why a Christmas theme, Ulmer answers, “In Orlando, a town where you’re competing with Disney, you need to be creative to stand out. And I wanted to create a place that takes people to the time of year when they’re celebrating with family and friends.”
Inside, strands of Christmas lights adorn the ceiling, and the décor is vintage. A full-size antique sleigh hangs overhead, a life-size model of the jolly gift-bearer himself invites opportunities for photos, and a Lionel train circles the bar. Modern features are present in the form of several large TVs and the digital counter ticking off the days until Christmas. Whimsical murals such as a Chihuahua in a Santa hat decorate the walls in the back where the DJ plays retro 1980s and ‘90s top hits interspersed with Christmas carols. Without a designated dance floor, dancing happens where people stand, and whenever a seasonal song hits the speakers, snow machines create flurries for a thematic snowfall.
Patrons seeking relief from balmy temperatures find it by way of signature frosty libations. Two full liquor bars offer all the usual drinks plus five specialty adult snow cones. Most popular is the “Coconuts Over an Open Roasting Fire,’’ made with coconut water rum, banana liqueur, fresh lime, simple syrup, and shredded coconut. Wine and beer are available too, but on draft you’ll only find winter seasonal ales such as Anchor Christmas Ale and Widmer Brothers BRRRR. Served frosty all year long. Open daily. 50 E.
