Burgers: Meet Beth
Meet the face of Beth's Burger Bar.
Beth Steele is the founder/owner of Beth’s Burger Bar, which created the O-Mag Burger on the cover. She got into the burger business in 2012, opening a Beth’s at 24 E. Washington St., then a location at 5145 S. Orange Ave. in Edgewood two years later. Steele also has operated a local staffing company for the past 20 years.
Who are your customers?
“Business people during the day, families in the evenings, the drunkie bears at night. I love the ‘Aren’t you the burger girl?’ They want me to take pictures, come to their birthday parties.” (She has a cardboard cutout people can take pictures with when she’s elsewhere.)
How many crazed burger fans have completed the one-pound burger DD Challenge?
“A little over 100. The record is less than 2 minutes. I don’t think he actually chewed it. Downtown, a lot of the offices send 10 guys, then the girls make fun of the guys who can’t finish, so we make them get in the burger suit and hang their picture on the wall.”
What are your strangest burgers, and what wouldn’t you put on one?
“The Cheeto burger (jalapeños, cheddar, sriracha, Cheetos), and I’d have to say the peanut butter (peanut butter, A1, grilled onions, cheddar), even though it’s our best seller. I wouldn’t do bananas.”
Any expansion plans?
“We’re looking for a third spot right now, but I won’t expand if I can’t be at every location. People know that every Thursday night I’m here (on South Orange); I’m downtown every Tuesday and Thursday lunch.”
The Cover Burger
Want to dig into that burger on the cover? It was made especially for us by Beth’s Burger Bar and is available at both locations through October. Just ask for—you guessed it—the O-Mag Burger. What’s between the buns? Two patties (1 pound of beef); American cheese, ketchup, mustard, avocado, jalapenos, bacon, Cheetos, sauteed mushrooms, and onion rings. Go for it! bethsburgerbar.com
