Beacon College’s “2.0 Kinds of Funny” Exhibit Brings Humor to the Gallery
Now through October 3.
The Kristin Michelle Mason Art Gallery at Beacon College is inviting the public to experience “2.0 Kinds of Funny,” an imaginative exhibition running now through October 3. Admission is free, with viewing hours Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The traveling show, first curated for the University of Cincinnati’s Reed Gallery earlier this year, presents up to 40 artists who each worked within a 12-by-12-by-12-inch box. The compact format sparked creative approaches, resulting in artworks that play with humor in playful, satirical, and surprising ways.
“Each of the works explores the concept of humor, but the artists approach it through a variety of styles, from playful and whimsical to ironic and satirical,” said Dustin Boise, Beacon College studio arts professor and director of the Mason Art Gallery. “That diversity gives viewers a chance to see how humor can take shape in many different artistic languages.”
Beacon College, located in Leesburg, is known internationally for its commitment to students with learning differences. Founded in 1989, it was the first accredited baccalaureate institution in the nation dedicated to educating students with ADHD, dyslexia, and other learning differences. Today the college continues to earn accolades for its accessibility and innovative approach to education.
