Art Flashback
A bit of whimsy and a whole lot of pop can be found at Boom-Art Gallery on Ivanhoe Row.
A stroll on the part of North Orange Avenue known as Ivanhoe Row turns up an eclectic mix of vintage shops, boutiques, wine bars and cafes. Tucked in this assemblage are some cool furniture stores where finding a one-of-a-kind accent piece for your home is totally doable. Pop art, bold colors and a bit of whimsy describe the merchandise at Boom-Art Gallery. Cartoon characters from Superman in his flashy red cape to Top Cat with his mischievous grin adorn hand-painted chairs and tables that are finished with a protective coating that adds luster—and protects— the artwork. Fanciful frames enhance illustrations of Betty Boop, and assorted table accessories featuring more cartoon favorites clutter every inch of space. Visit on a day when owner/artist Glenn Rogers is tending shop, and he’ll talk your ear off, sharing stories about his days as a clown with the Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey circus—no doubt great inspiration for his amusing designs. Boom-Art Gallery, 1821 N. Orange Ave., Orlando. 407-895-0280.
