Allison and Byron

JANUARY 15, 2011

Ironically, Allison Yates was downtown celebrating the single life with friends one night in April 2009 when she met her future husband, Byron Gauthier. Allison recalls their meeting being an “a-ha moment of true love,” with the two going on to date for nearly two years. Byron took her by surprise again when, on New Year’s Eve 2009, he blindsided her with a marriage proposal in front of friends and 700 guests dining at Loews Royal Pacific Resort. Planning the wedding was a cinch for Allison, 28, because that is what she does professionally as the wedding & special events manager at The Villas of Grand Cypress, site of the rehearsal dinner. As the owner of Get Lit Productions, a special-events lighting company, Byron, 41, is connected to the wedding industry, too. For her wedding day, Allison had Eventfully Yours take charge of day-of coordination and execution of all the details. “I would have never tried to do that myself,” says Allison. “I know my worth as a wedding planner.” What she didn’t expect were the overwhelming emotions, pressure and attention that come from being on the other side of the fence. “I spent years planning weddings, but I have a much deeper understanding and a more compassionate point of view now, having been the bride.”
