An “avid skateboarder” since his teen years, Orlando’s Rick Andrews was excited to attend the AST Dew Tour competition, outside the Amway Arena. “It’s kind of amazing to see these guys jump dirt bikes that high and do crazy stuff,” he says. A graphic designer by trade, Andrews considers himself a semi-pro photographer. In this shot—thanks to the angle of exposure and the position of the biker’s legs—man and machine appear to almost float above the city’s cranes. Action shots like this one, from October 2006, are Andrews’ favorites because they involve risk and timing: “You gotta just see what they’re doin’, find your spot, shoot from there and hope it all comes together.” |
