Editorial Intern Job Description

The goal of Orlando magazine is for students and recent graduates to gain valuable experience in the world of magazine publishing. We give our interns the chance to learn and develop skills in a variety of areas including editorial, marketing, advertising, social media and more.

Our paid interns work on Orlando magazine, Orlando Wedding and Orlando Home+Garden and regularly assist the editorial team with the following duties: fact-checking, proofreading, writing short features, pitching story ideas, conducting interviews, gathering images, creating product guides and blog posts, hosting event tables, and managing social media outlets.

Qualifications:
–Seeking a degree in Journalism, Magazine Journalism or English.
–Has taken Editing I (preferred).
–Familiar with the AP Stylebook.
–Proficient in fact-checking and proofreading.
–Ready to be creative and to contribute ideas.
–Extremely detail oriented and organized.
–Comfortable making calls and conducting interviews.
–Enjoys working with a team.
–Has reliable transportation.
–Available 10-12 hours a week.
–Must have a sense of humor!

Art Department Intern
(FILLED FOR SUMMER — PLEASE CHECK BACK WITH US IN SEPTEMBER)

Orlando Magazine is looking for a graphic design intern for the Summer (May, June and July). This is a PAID, part-time position with a flexible schedule (max 12 hours per week). The internship position is open to students currently enrolled in a college-credit program OR students who have graduated within the last 12-months. This is a great opportunity for anyone who wants to learn more about the publishing industry, polish their typography skills, and work on a variety of projects. 

Requirements**:
–2 or 4-year degree in related graphic design field OR currently enrolled in a college-credit course for internship
-Proficient Adobe user, mainly Adobe InDesign and Photoshop. Some light Illustrator may also be required.
–Experienced Mac user
–Comfortable with using layers masks, clipping paths and photo editing techniques
–Knowledgeable in preparing files for print
–Possess STELLAR typography skills and a keen understanding of typographic principles
–Very organized with a great eye for detail
–Able to meet deadlines and prioritize tasks
–Motivated, team player with a strong work ethic 

**Though not required, photography and video editing skills are a plus, as students with these skills will be able to help more in depth with our photo shoots and behind the scenes videos.

Responsibilities include…
–Assisting the Art Department in the planning, layout and creation of pages for Orlando magazine and Orlando Home+Garden magazine
–Editing photos and preparing files for print
–Working with the Sales Department on the creation of ads, sales kits and flyers
–Collaborate with the Marketing Department on event materials and in-house promotions
–Assisting the Photographer and Art Department on various photo shoots (travel may be required)
–Uploading content to the website via our content management system (very light coding involved)
–Participating in weekly meetings
