Editorial Intern Job Description
The goal of Orlando magazine is for students and recent graduates to gain valuable experience in the world of magazine publishing. We give our interns the chance to learn and develop skills in a variety of areas including editorial, marketing, advertising, social media and more.
Our paid interns work on Orlando magazine, Orlando Wedding and Orlando Home+Garden and regularly assist the editorial team with the following duties: fact-checking, proofreading, writing short features, pitching story ideas, conducting interviews, gathering images, creating product guides and blog posts, hosting event tables, and managing social media outlets.
–Seeking a degree in Journalism, Magazine Journalism or English.
–Has taken Editing I (preferred).
–Familiar with the AP Stylebook.
–Proficient in fact-checking and proofreading.
–Ready to be creative and to contribute ideas.
–Extremely detail oriented and organized.
–Comfortable making calls and conducting interviews.
–Enjoys working with a team.
–Has reliable transportation.
–Available 10-12 hours a week.
–Must have a sense of humor!

Art Department Intern needed at Orlando Magazine Orlando Magazine is looking an graphic design intern for the Spring 2014 semester. This is a PAID position with a flexible schedule (minimum of 5-12 hours per week) over a duration of at least 3-4 months. The internship position is open to students currently enrolled in a college-credit program OR students who have graduated within the last 12 months. Requirements**:
–2 or 4-year degree in related graphic design field OR currently enrolled in a college-credit course for internship/self study
–Proficient Adobe user, especially Adobe InDesign and Photoshop. Some light Illustrator may also be required.
–Experienced Mac user
–Comfortable using layers masks, clipping paths and photo editing techniques
–Knowledgeable in preparing files for print
–Possess strong typography skills and keen understanding of typographic principles
–Very organized with a great eye for detail
–Able to meet deadlines and prioritize tasks
–Motivated, team player with a strong work ethic (and a good sense of humor doesn’t hurt either)
**Though not required, photography and video editing skills are a plus, as students with these skills will be able to help more in depth with our photo shoots and behind the scenes videos.
–Assisting the Art Department in concepting, layout and creation of pages for Orlando Magazine and Orlando Home+Garden
–Editing photos and preparing files for print
–Working with the Sales Department in the creation of ads and sales flyers
–Collaborate with the Marketing Department on designing event materials and in-house promotions
–Assisting the Photographer and Art Department on various photo shoots (some light lifting may be involved)
–Uploading content to the website and building e-newsletters via a content management system (very little coding involved)
–Participating in weekly meetings
