About OMag

Founded in 1946, Orlando magazine reflects the lifestyle and interests of an upscale, educated readership. And as “The City’s Magazine,” we’ve grown and changed alongside The City Beautiful. Throughout the years, the magazine’s mission remains unchanged: to offer readers compelling local content that is both entertaining and informative, and to provide information that will drive decision making. The arts, dining, travel, entertainment, style, people and trends—if it’s part of Orlando’s lifestyle, you’ll find it covered in Orlando magazine.

Orlando Wins Big

Orlando magazine won more awards for editorial excellence than any consumer publication (20,000-50,000 circulation) at the 2009 Florida Magazine Association conference. Overall, Orlando claimed 10 awards, including first and second places for Best In-Depth Reporting and second place for Best Overall Magazine.

The award count is a personal best for Orlando magazine, which underwent a redesign and content overhaul in late 2008 after Mike Boslet took over as editor. Magazines could enter content published from May 2008 to April 2009 in the FMA contest, which was judged by out-of-state journalism professionals and university journalism instructors.

Orlando claimed the following awards:

Gold: Best Editorial/Commentary – “Evidence of Wrongdoing”  (January 2009) by Mike Boslet; Best In-Depth Reporting – “The Bully Pulpit of George Crossley” (October 2008) by Mark I. Pinsky; Best Department – Our Town, edited by Mike Boslet and designed by Jason Jones; Best Cover – Dining Awards (May 2008) by Jason Jones.

Silver: Best Overall Magazine; Best In-Dept Reporting – “Is Sam Zell Digging the Sentinel’s Grave?” (November 2008) by Michael McLeod; Best Feature – “Is Sam Zell Digging the Sentinel’s Grave?” (November 2008) by Michael McLeod.
