After months of anticipation and careful negotiations, The Winter Park Playhouse has officially secured its future in the heart of Winter Park. On Tuesday, September 23, the City of Winter Park finalized the purchase of the building at 711 N. Orange Avenue, Winter Park, a space the Playhouse has called home for the past 23 years.
The purchase was made possible through Orange County Tourism Development Tax (TDT) grant funds, a move that not only provides the City with a valuable cultural property but also ensures the long-term survival of one of Central Florida’s most beloved arts organizations.
A Staple of Central Florida’s Arts Scene
Founded in 2002, The Winter Park Playhouse is Central Florida’s only professional musical theatre dedicated to year-round programming. Over the past two decades, it has grown into a community cornerstone, offering:

The TDT grant funding extends beyond the purchase itself. Plans are in place for an extensive renovation of the theatre, including:

During construction, the Playhouse will continue to perform its signature Mainstage Musicals and Spotlight Cabarets at Orlando Shakes (812 E. Rollins Street, Orlando, 32803), ensuring uninterrupted access to high-quality theatre while renovations are underway.

The Winter Park Playhouse remains a 501(c)(3) non-profit charitable organization, proudly affiliated with Actors’ Equity Association and the National Alliance for Musical Theatre. With this milestone, the Playhouse is poised to thrive for decades to come, continuing its mission to bring joy, laughter, and inspiration through the power of live musical theatre.
