Ahoy, Orlando! There’s a storm of excitement brewing on the horizon—and it’s not thunder you’re hearing, it’s the clinking of tankards and the rowdy laughter of pirates! According to the Disney Parks Blog, Disney’s Magic Kingdom is about to unveil its most spirited hideaway yet: The Beak and Barrel, a brand-new pirate-themed tavern opening later this year in the heart of Adventureland.
Founded by the legendary pirate rumrunner Captain Meridian “Merry” Goldwyn and her feathered first mate, Rummy, this rollicking pub promises to be a haven for seafarers, landlubbers, and scallywags of all ages. So, gather your crew and prepare to step inside a world of grog, ghosts, and good ol’ pirate mischief.
Meet Rummy: The Feathered Face of the Tavern
High above the bar, keeping watch over the revelry, you’ll find Rummy—the tavern’s cheeky quartermaster and former high-flying legend of Adventureland. If Rummy looks familiar, you’re not imagining things. This chatty bird bears a striking resemblance to the long-lost Barker Bird who once welcomed guests to Pirates of the Caribbean. Now semi-retired, Rummy is back in action, cracking jokes, spinning yarns, and leading the occasional toast. Just don’t challenge him to a drinking contest.
The Mess: Where Pirates Break Bread (and Probably Tables)
Step into “The Mess,” the grand central hall of The Beak and Barrel, and you’ll be transported into a lively mess hall once used by Spanish soldiers—now overtaken by salt-crusted rogues and loud-mouthed legends.
Long communal tables encourage storytelling, laughter, and a bit of rowdy behavior, while the main bar, crafted from the remains of a cursed shipwreck, looms large. In the center, a skull-shaped stern displays a dazzling array of grogs and brews. Look closely and you might spy the Enchanted Rum Bottle, a mystical gift from Tia Dalma herself, said to be the source of the tavern’s most bewitching beverages. And yes, Rummy might just strut by to make sure your pint’s never empty.
The Captains’ Quarters: Elegance, Pirate-Style
For those pirates with a taste for the finer (and slightly scorched) things, the Captains’ Quarters await. Once the Spanish Comandante’s private retreat, this intimate space now bears the scars of rowdy pirate takeovers—slashed paintings, scorched drapery, and missing portraits hint at tales best left untold.
Keep your eyes on the mantle: five intricate ship-in-a-bottle models rest above the fireplace, each representing a legendary pirate from the far corners of the globe. Rumor has it, these bottles come alive after dark for a mini naval battle. (No promises, but maybe order another drink and watch closely.)
A Pirate’s Life (and Bites) Awaits
While details on the drink menu and pirate-approved bites are still under wraps, you can bet your last doubloon that The Beak and Barrel will serve up flavors bold enough to shiver your timbers. Whether you’re a daring buccaneer or a pint-sized powder monkey, this is one watering hole where the whole crew is welcome.
So polish your cutlasses and fluff your plumage—The Beak and Barrel is sailing into Adventureland soon, and it’s bound to be the rowdiest port this side of the Caribbean.
Stay tuned for more updates, including the official opening date and sneak peeks of what’s on tap. Until then, fair winds, me hearties!
