Client Story: Symone’s New Beginning
When Symone Davis and her 11-year-old daughter secured stable housing after experiencing homelessness, it marked a new beginning. But furnishing their empty apartment still felt overwhelming.
After a living arrangement fell through, they stayed with family, and Symone later slept in her car. With help from the Coalition for the Homeless of Central Florida and case manager Andrea, they moved from temporary housing into a home of their own. Andrea then referred them to The Mustard Seed.
“When she told me about it, it really gave me a sense of relief,” Symone said. At the warehouse, a sleeper couch immediately caught her eye because it perfectly matched a picture from her previous apartment.
“I was so excited to receive my couch,” she said. “It matches this picture I’ve been having. And it’s a sleeper.”
The couch represented more than a place to sit. It became part of the comfortable, welcoming home Symone was creating for herself and her daughter. Altogether, she selected 24 pieces of furniture to help them begin again.
Her advice to others was simple: “Just keep going. Believe in yourself. And if you need help, say something. A closed mouth don’t get fed.”
You can help families like Symone’s find stability, comfort, and hope after crisis.
