Historic Places Abound
The Key West Lighthouse, Key West, Florida. It’s first structure, a 65-foot tower, built in 1825, was destroyed in the Great Havana Hurricane of 1846. The new Key West Light was completed in 1848, with several modifications for height made over time. The Light was decommissioned in 1969 and turned over to Monroe County, which leases the Light to the Key West Arts and Historical Society and is operated as the Key West Light and Keeper’s Quarters Museum.
