Technology, nature, wellness and modern living converge at Lake Nona, a suburb of Orlando that’s just a short drive from the airport.
A Commitment to Wellness
Designed with more than 44 miles of trails and a variety of parks, including the Lake Nona Sculpture Garden and numerous pocket parks, Lake Nona places a strong emphasis on holistic living. Its shuttle network, powered by Beep and part of the Move Nona network, is the largest and longest-running single-site autonomous shuttle network in the U.S., offering free and easy commutes around Lake Nona. Opportunities for yoga abound, whether it be dockside at Laureate Park or indoors at the Chopra Mind-Body Zone inside the Lake Nona Performance Club, whether you wind down with Gentle & Restorative Yoga or challenge your physical limits at a Wall Yoga class. Various forms of Pilates and meditation are also offered.
The Lake Nona facility marks the first brick-and-mortar partnership for Chopra Global, a whole-health company founded by Dr. Deepak Chopra.
“The future of leadership, the future of societies, the future of nations, depends on wellbeing communities,” says Chopra. “Lake Nona is pioneering in that, and I hope others will follow.”
The performance club and mind-body zone only scrape the surface, however, when it comes to sports and recreation in Lake Nona. The USTA National Campus, the largest tennis facility in the United States, has 100 courts and innovative development programs and is home to thousands of professional, collegiate and amateur training players and teams. SoFive Lake Nona serves soccer, lacrosse, Futsal, flag football and volleyball leagues. And then, of course, there is the Lake Nona Golf & Country Club.
Water, Water Everywhere
In addition to the golf and country club, which is surrounded by more than 1,000 acres of freshwater lakes, there are a number of resort-style water amenities in Lake Nona. In Laureate Park, the Laureate Park Aquatic Center features a tranquil pool with private cabanas and a lap pool with five junior Olympic lap lanes. You’ll also find a zero-entry splash pool, water cannons and a 25-foot-tall dumping bucket here, so kids of all ages can stay cool on sunny days.
Up the thrill level at the Nona Adventure Park, which offers a number of exhilarating experiences. Get out on the lake for a wakeboarding session, available to both experienced wakeboarders and beginners. The Aqua Park offers hours of adventure on its inflatable obstacle course with more than 1,000 feet of challenges, such as two Mt. Rainiers, Whirlpool, Ninja Jump and Tire Run. There are also kayak and paddleboard rentals, and when relaxation calls, kick back at the Nona Beach Club.
Build endurance, muscular strength and cardiovascular fitness in the water at the Lake Nona Performance Club (membership required), where four different pools accommodate all fitness levels and age groups. The zero-entry Family Pool has a water slide, fountain feature and Nano Wall to the outdoors; the Therapy Pool soothes muscles with its 88 degree Fahrenheit temp. The Lap Pool is a six lane, 25-meter pool with a maximum depth of five feet. Then, soak your cares away in the whirlpool.
Living Par Excellence
With dozens of neighborhoods, Lake Nona offers something for every stage of life: from charming townhomes to sprawling estate properties, you’ll find it here. Lake Nona is one of the fastest-growing master-planned communities in the country, and with a top-rated schools, healthcare services, cultural activities and a bevy of must-visit restaurants, you’re hard-pressed to set foot out of the neighborhood.
“My husband and I moved to the Laureate Park neighborhood in Lake Nona in 2015,” says resident Brittani Luongo. “We fell in love with Laureate Park when we first visited. The houses weren’t all the same color or shape like you see in so many Florida neighborhoods, and the walkability was what really drew us in originally. We’ve since upgraded our original townhome and moved into a single-family home in the same neighborhood when our family grew, like so many of our neighbors have done,” she adds.
Indeed, Laureate Park is known for its brightly colored dwellings and multi-story homes designed for getting outside and getting together. The seemingly endless list of amenities is perfect for making memories.
“I love taking the kids to Nona Adventure Park, which is steps away from our home in Laureate Park,” says Luongo. “There are so many activities for the whole family there—water sports, the ropes course or just relaxing by the lake, and it’s a great way to spend just a few hours or the whole day. “
Luongo also appreciates Lake Nona’s quick highway access.
“It’s about a 20–30-minute highway drive to anywhere I want to go— the parks, Winter Park, Winter Garden and downtown Orlando,” she says. “Because it’s mainly highway driving and not a stop-and-go, it feels so close to everything. And I love that I rarely am dependent on I-4!”
