Letter from the Editor: The Power of Orlando

Power can be measured in many ways. It can be found in a title, a position of influence or the ability to shape decisions that affect an entire community. But at its most meaningful, power is the capacity to bring people together, open doors and make a lasting difference. That spirit is at the heart of Orlando magazine’s annual 50 Most Powerful People issue. Each year, we recognize the leaders whose vision, determination and influence are helping define the future of Central Florida. They come from business, government, health care, education, hospitality, philanthropy, the arts and other fields, but they share a commitment to moving our region forward.

This year’s list reflects both the remarkable growth of Orlando and the people working to ensure that progress reaches every corner of our community. Some of the names will be familiar, while others may introduce you to leaders whose important work often happens outside the spotlight. Together, they offer a compelling portrait of a region shaped by ambition, innovation and service.

This issue also celebrates the inaugural recipient of our Philanthropy Award, presented in partnership with the Rosen family of Rosen Hotels & Resorts. The honor recognizes a leader whose generosity and community involvement demonstrate that influence is most powerful when it is used to help others. Our Faces of Orlando section offers another opportunity to meet the people behind some of Central Florida’s most respected businesses, organizations and professional practices. These local experts and entrepreneurs bring personality, experience and dedication to the work they do, and we are pleased to introduce them to our readers.

October, of course, also brings a playful change of mood. This month’s In Focus rounds up Halloween happenings across the area, from family-friendly festivities to spine-tingling experiences for those who prefer their seasonal fun with a few genuine scares. For readers ready to travel beyond Florida, our photo essay journeys through Virginia, capturing the landscapes, history and distinctive character of the commonwealth. It is a beautiful reminder that some of the most memorable stories can be told through a camera lens.

Throughout the issue, you will find even more of the people, places, events and ideas that make Central Florida such a dynamic place to call home. We hope these pages inspire you to learn more about the leaders shaping our future, support the people building our community and enjoy everything the season has to offer. Thank you for reading and for celebrating Orlando with us.
