Regenerative design is the act of creating projects that contribute to the restoration and regeneration of our social and environmental ecosystems. This is the effort we must now embrace if we are to create a living future for our planet. At Little, we believe that the performance of the built environment has the power to transform lives, shape the world around us, and create a better future. To be truly regenerative, a project must stretch beyond the borders of its site and create positive outcomes throughout all interconnected systems of life. The integrity of our work at Little is rooted in our effort to create projects that measurably improve our client’s performance and achieve positive and uplifting integration into the social, economic, and ecological communities they are deeply embedded within. We don’t just shout it to the market, we practice it every day, in ways that produce actual, positive building performance, reduce overall carbon footprints, and provide an impactful return on investment for all stakeholders. A reflection of that effort is our work in helping create the 4Roots Regenerative Urban Farm Campus right here in the heart of Orlando. This work, together with 4Roots, Dix-Hite, and our local design and engineering partners has focused on creating an elegant and authentic home for 4Roots and its mission in “restoring the delicate balance between community and nature.” On track to meet the zero-carbon certification from the Living Building Challenge, the first building on site, the Education Building, has focused on significantly reducing its use of resources to design, construct, and operate it along with its overall carbon footprint. In doing so, it has begun laying the groundwork for a campus that will genuinely reflect the 4Roots mission and its efforts to regeneratively enrich this community and the world at large.
