Sesame Workshop, the nonprofit organization behind Sesame Street, today announced a series of family-friendly fun runs to celebrate the beloved show’s 50th anniversary. The first two events will be held in Orlando, Florida on Sunday, November 17, 2019, and in Los Angeles, California, on Saturday, March 28, 2020. Registration for both races is open now. All proceeds will benefit the Sesame Workshop Yellow Feather Fund, which supports Sesame Workshop’s many social impact initiatives that help children and families around the world through challenges big and small.
Continuing a yearlong celebration of Sesame Street’s cultural and philanthropic impact, the Sesame Street Fun Run events will include both a 5K race and shorter races for young children. All participants will receive Sesame Street-themed capes and finisher medals to take home. Each run will conclude with a post-race festival, where families can pose for photos, get hugs from costumed Sesame Street characters, and more.
“At these fun runs, we hope to see runners of all ages getting active together, enjoying the outdoors, and maybe meeting a few new friends – that’s what Sesame Street is all about!” said Sheila Kelly, Sesame Workshop’s Chief Development Officer. “They’ll also let our passionate community of fans and families support Sesame Workshop’s wide-ranging social impact work in a whole new way.”
Kicking off the series, the Orlando race is presented in conjunction with Central Florida PBS affiliate WUCF. The event will be held on the University of Central Florida’s Memory Mall on Sunday, November 17. The Los Angeles race will be held at Van Nuys Park on Saturday, March 28th, 2020.
