For nearly two decades, Dr. Gideon J. Lewis has built a career defined by excellence, innovation, and service. Widely recognized as one of the nation’s leading foot and ankle surgeons and sports medicine specialists, he has become the trusted surgeon for patients facing complex injuries—from professional and Olympic athletes to individuals determined to regain their independence.

His passion for advancing medicine, mentoring future physicians, and serving Central Florida continues to shape a legacy measured not only by surgical excellence, but by the lives he has transformed and the physicians he has mentored.

As Director of the Foot & Ankle Sports Medicine Institute, Dr. Lewis specializes in reconstructive surgery, sports medicine, and complex foot and ankle disorders. His expertise has made him a trusted physician for professional, collegiate, and Olympic athletes, including athletes from the Orlando Magic and UCF Athletics, while providing the same personalized care to every patient seeking to restore mobility, independence, and quality of life.

Leadership Through Education

Board certified in Reconstructive Foot and Ankle Surgery, Dr. Lewis is a Fellow of the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons and the American Academy of Podiatric Sports Medicine. He serves on the Board of Directors of the American Academy of Podiatric Sports Medicine and on the faculties of the University of Central Florida and Florida State University Colleges of Medicine. As founder of the UCF Surgical Internship Program, he has mentored more than 85 future physicians, achieving a 98% medical school acceptance rate. His contributions earned him the UCF College of Medicine Rising Star Award and the Dean’s Award, the institution’s highest faculty honor.

A Legacy of Service

Medicine has always been a calling in his family. Inspired by his grandfather, a general surgeon, and his father, who has practiced family medicine in Central Florida for nearly 50 years, Dr. Lewis proudly continues a three-generation legacy of service. While grateful for the honors he has received, he believes the greatest reward is helping patients preserve their independence, restore mobility, and improve their quality of life.
