CERTIFICATION & TRAINING
Dr. Konsens is board-certified and a fellow of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons. He attended Dartmouth College, the Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York City, and Case Western for his orthopedic residency. He completed a fellowship at the Nuffield Orthopaedic Clinic in Oxford, England.
PROFESSIONAL ACHIEVEMENT
Dr. Konsens has been practicing at Orlando Health Jewett Orthopedic Institute for over 36 years and jokes that he has literally been working in the same hallway the entire time. He has enjoyed a full career performing surgeries, teaching medical students, publishing 15 articles, and serving as an expert witness. His three most memorable patients are a lovely 106-year-old woman he treated for 20 years, a man who climbed 25,000 feet up Mount Everest after a knee replacement, and a college basketball player who played in a game four days after his surgery.
PERSONAL ACHIEVEMENT
His most unique personal achievement has been competing in track and field. He was the captain of the college track team at Dartmouth College and the Ivy League long jump champion in 1980. After a 30-year break, he has been competing in Masters USA track and field events. He has placed in the top three at Nationals three times, is a two-time All-American, and finished 10th in the long jump at the Masters World Championship in Lyon, France.
FAMILY
Above all, his most valued personal achievement is his 32-year marriage to his supportive and beautiful wife, Michelle, whom he actually met at Orlando Health Jewett Orthopedic Institute. Together, they have raised two sons, Hunter and Kyle. Both hold master’s degrees from Vanderbilt University and work in finance in New York City.
