OLDE GLORY
JULY 4
The Bach Festival Choir and Brass performs patriotic music in Winter Park’s annual Olde Fashioned Fourth of July Celebration in Central Park. Traditionally, the free event features the choir and brass about 11 a.m. The day also includes tastes of Americana such as horse-drawn wagon rides, a children’s bicycle parade, clowns, face painting and a contest for the most patriotic hat. 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Free admission. ASSORTED ART
Ongoing When you’re visiting Daytona Beach, check out the Museum of Arts and Sciences, which offers three very different exhibitions: classical art, pirates and World War II. The Classical World: From the Collection of the Tampa Museum of Art, includes rare Greek and Roman antiquities. Florida East Coast Pirates is presented in cooperation with the Mel Fisher Maritime Heritage Society in Key West. WEAPONS AND WAR
July 24-August 24
Two plays opening at the Mad Cow Theatre this month consider questions of weapons and war. First, in George Bernard Shaw’s Major Barbara, opening July 24 on Stage Left, a Salvation Army officer questions whether her charitable organization should accept money from her munitions-maker father. Thursday-Saturday 7:30 p.m., Sunday 2:30 p.m. $22-$26.

Elliot, A Soldier’s Fugue, by Quiara Alegria Hudes, is a Pulitzer Prize finalist and opens July 31 on Mad Cow’s Stage Right. It tells of a 19-year-old third-generation Puerto Rican soldier returning from Iraq a wounded hero. As he ponders whether to go back to war, his father and grandfather share their stories of service in Vietnam and Korea. Thursday-Saturday 8 p.m., Sunday 3 p.m. $22.

PAINTED LADIES
JULY 15-AUGUST 31
It’s all about the women as the Cornell Fine Arts Museum presents Portrait of a Lady. The exhibition features selections from the Rollins College museum’s collection of portraiture about and by women. Artists include William Merritt Chase, Louis-Michel van Loo, Franz Pourbus the Younger, Sir John Lavery, Roger Fry and Vanessa Bell.
