Carla Bermudez and Daniel Melick were almost inseparable after they began dating in 2005 while attending Liberty University in Lynchburg, Va. On New Year’s Eve 2010, the two were in South Florida to celebrate the holiday and Daniel’s birthday at a friend’s downtown condo. While everyone was downstairs counting down the seconds to 2011, Carla, who grew up in Kissimmee, and Daniel were on the roof looking at the lights of downtown Fort Lauderdale. “He turned to me, pulled out the ring and said, ‘I love you, and I want you to be my wife,’” says Carla. “He made me the happiest girl in the world.” Both the bride and groom were born on the 31st day of a month, and they got engaged on the 31st, which is why they chose to be married on the 31st day of July. The couple now live in Tampa, where Daniel, 26, works as a digital technologist. Carla, 25, is completing her degree in psychology.

"When the pastor unexpectedly asked us to say a few words to each other, without hesitation Daniel said, ‘You are my best friend.’ I don’t think there was a dry eye in the room.”
- Carla
