The timeless magic of A Christmas Carol lands on Amelia Island with the arrival of Dickens on Centre, December 8-11. The annual Dickens on Centre holiday event transforms historic Centre Street in downtown Fernandina Beach into a 19th century Christmas village. Recalling Charles Dickens’ early Victorian-era Britain, the downtown experience includes horse-drawn carriages and period vendors, characters and entertainers, along with festive lights and holiday décor, exciting seasonal entertainment and tastes of the holidays. The joyful weekend kicks off with the America’s Youth Annual Lighted Christmas Parade on Thursday, December 8th, followed by three days of Christmas magic of a bygone era during Dickens on Centre. Free to the public, the Victorian-inspired holiday festival is sure to enliven your Christmas spirit. Think chestnuts roasting, carolers strolling, readings of ‘Twas the Night Before Christmas, and visits from Saint Nicholas himself. Families will enjoy Tiny Tim’s Kid Zone, where children of all ages can play old-fashioned games, write and mail a letter to Saint Nicholas, and much more.
The Dickens on Centre events complement the island’s already popular Holiday Home Tour (December 2-3) by the Amelia Island Museum of History and the Bed & Breakfast Association’s Holiday Cookie Tour (December 10), as well as several other resort and destination events throughout the holiday season. So grab your top hat, fasten your bonnet, and wander and wonder through a true Victorian Christmas on Amelia Island during the spectacular Dickens on Centre.
