Manic-Kin
Through July 5
Mannequins rescued from the landfill are the stars of Orlando artist M. Scott Morgan’s solo exhibition of about 20 new pieces of art, some specially created for this event. Morgan makes quirky sculptures by applying decoupage to the mannequins. Some glow with layers of color, resembling stained glass windows; others are coated with newsprint.

Bipartisan Art: American Patriots and Abraham Lincoln
Through July 10
Original American patriots and Abraham Lincoln woodcut prints by artist Charles Turzak, who created murals in post offices and government buildings during the Depression for the WPA, and who spent his later years in Orlando until his death in 1986.

Painter Jim Jackson, known for his work at Hard Rock Cafe, and sculptor Richard Reep, whose work has appeared at Orlando Museum of Art, open a show that uses traditional and nontraditional art forms to express the chasm between physical and virtual reality. Opening reception hosted by the gallery and the Harwood Watson Dance Studio, July 10, 6-9 p.m.

The Best of Storytellers 1996–2008

For the past twelve years, teens who live in diverse neighborhoods from Sanford to Kissimmee have participated in the Storytellers program, using photography to give insight into their changing worlds. Storytellers creator and Crealdé executive director Peter Schreyer selected highlights from the award-
winning outreach program.

Abstracted Realities
July 13-August 14
Works by Orlando painter Keith Theriot and Orlando glass sculptor Nick Bingham. Theriot’s work was inspired by a recent collaboration with musician Scott Robertson, whose blend of electronic and Native American instruments moved Theriot to interpret the music with visual art. Orlando glass sculptor Nick Bingham integrated glass art into his wood work to create what he calls “a unique marriage of two completely different materials that complete one another.” Reception from 6-9 p.m. July 13 as a part of the Third Thursdays art event.
 
Oil and Acrylic Paintings on Canvas by Dan Tashlin and Clay Stephens
Through July 10
Dan Tashlin of the Black Dog Studio specializes in contemporary-realistic oil paintings of people, pets and places. Clay Stephens explores acrylic on canvas with recalled landscape and earth-formation images.

Sacred Places, Sacred History: Black Churches of West Winter Park
July 7-September 26
An exhibition of photographs and educational panels created by Rebekah McCloud, a historian who specializes in black churches. McCloud won the 2003-04 Rhea Marsh and Dorothy Lockhard Smith Research Grant from the Winter Park Public Library, and used the grant money to provide insight into the rich history of west Winter Park’s churches and the important role they played in community life. Opening reception July 16, 5–8 p.m. during the 3rd Thursday Hannibal Square Stroll.
