Say “I Do” to Your Dream Wedding Photographer

5 things to consider when hiring the photographer who will capture your big day.

You’ve finally found him or her — the person who makes your heart beat faster when you’re together. Now you’re engaged and in the midst of planning one of the most memorable days of your lives. You’ll want a professional to document everything from the moment you start to get ready to your formal pronouncement as husband and wife. So here are five things to consider when hiring a photographer for your wedding after you’ve set the date and booked the venue.

Quality
A photographer’s style can be categorized by traditional, documentary, fine art, or high fashion, to name a few. Questions to ask: What format does the photographer use — film or digital? Does his or her style and approach to photography match up with how you envision your wedding photos? One of the pitfalls to avoid is booking a photographer with a totally different style than what you fell in love with over Pinterest or Instagram. It’s important to be thorough in studying a photographer’s recent work.

Review wedding albums
Wedding albums are keepsakes that you and your family will reflect on for years to come. Ask to see sample wedding books and study them in person to get a feel for the photographer’s work. Consider your budget before making a decision regarding printing a wedding album on your own or investing with your photographer.

Communication
You can tell a lot about a photographer’s personality through their interaction with you. Consider your first impressions — from their social media and print presence to how they respond to your inquiry. Check out online testimonials and reviews on Facebook business pages and theknot.com. It’s even better when you see other wedding professionals reviewing each other. We call those special work relationships “friendors.” Professionals who have a good working relationship will help your wedding run smoothly.

Consultations / Set up interviews
In the Orlando area, wedding photography collections range between $1,500 and $3,000 on average, so with this type of an investment, a good photographer should invest in you, too. Does he or she offer availability during and after office hours to answer your questions promptly? Wait to book the service until you have reviewed the contract terms together and you feel educated on what to expect. Don’t book a service with a lengthy and confusing contract that requires a magnifying glass to read.

Confirm who is taking the photographs
It is extremely important to know up front who is going to be photographing on your wedding day. Ask the photographer who is the lead and second shooter, if a second photographer is included.

A top-notch wedding photographer will create memorable imagery for you and your families to treasure while keeping the entire process exciting. It’s well worth the investment of time and money to do your research and find that right wedding photographer to fit your day!
