Bed, Bath & Beautiful
The private places in your home deserve just as much attention as the public ones.
All too often, we lavish the lion’s share of attention (and money) on the places in our homes that visitors are most likely to see—fine furnishings in the living and dining rooms, state-of-the-art appliances and gleaming stone countertops in the kitchen, or perhaps a piece of exceptional art in the foyer. That’s all well and good, but don’t neglect those rooms that might not be on such ready display, especially the bedrooms and baths.
Just as you wouldn’t dream of wearing tattered undergarments beneath an exquisite suit of clothing, you shouldn’t overlook these most personal of spaces. After all, these rooms are designed for your own comfort, and thus should reflect that important role with décor that welcomes you, the occupant, and pleases your eye.
When furnishing and decorating bedrooms and baths, keep in mind that these are rooms where you can allow your unique—or even quirky—interests and tastes to shine in ways that might be out of place elsewhere in the house. Do you love the color red? Make a bedroom pop with scarlet paint and decorative accents. Simply adore shoes? Adorn a powder room with high-fashion sketches of footwear designs. Is collecting model cars a secret passion? Incorporate lighted shelving in your master suite and put those mini-mobiles on display for your own enjoyment.
