The event kicks off the upcoming arts season and features live performances by local orchestras, theater organizations, improv groups and dance troupes, including the NuLook School of the Performing Arts (pictured). 8/15-17 ArenaBowl XXVI weekend at the Amway Center boasts an array of exciting events. The main anchor of the weekend is the championship game for the Arena Football League—the winner of the American Conference will face off against the winner of the National Conference. The Central Florida Film Festival, or CENFLO, presents screenings of indie films, shorts and documentaries from around the world, including the documentary Running for Jim (shown), an inspiring story about a winning high school cross-country coach and his battle with ALS. Theatre UCF presents the charming off-Broadway musical hit The Fantasticks. The play follows Luisa and Matt (pictured, Leigh Green and Salvatore Vieira), whose well-meaning parents trick them into falling in love by staging a feud between the families—including hiring actors to kidnap Luisa so Matt can heroically rescue her. See why this engaging show is the world’s long-est-running musical.  theatre.ucf.edu

Explore Ursula Schwartz’s unique South African perspective at the Albin Polasek Museum and Sculpture Gardens in Winter Park. Her exhibit, Awakening: The Art of Ursula Schwartz, presents large-scale oil paintings with bold colors and an interesting twist: each painting is paired with a poem written by Schwartz and her son.
