MUSIC GOD
8/27
Move over, Apollo. Mars—Bruno Mars—reigns as the current god of music. This critically acclaimed artist’s achievements include a Grammy Award and five number-one hits reached more quickly than any other male soloist with the exception of Elvis. Fans can hear Mars’ rich tenor performing his latest and greatest tunes at the Amway Center. http://www.amwaycenter.com
WE ARE THE CHAMPIONS
8/15-17 ArenaBowl XXVI weekend at the Amway Center boasts an array of exciting events. The main anchor of the weekend is the championship game for the Arena Football League—the winner of the American Conference will face off against the winner of the National Conference. Fans can test their athletic prowess with the interactive football experience at Fan Fest, and legendary rock band KISS will headline a concert the night before the big game. http://www.amwaycenter.com
LIGHTS, CAMERA, ACTION!
8/30-9/1
The Central Florida Film Festival, or CENFLO, presents screenings of indie films, shorts and documentaries from around the world, including the documentary Running for Jim (shown), an inspiring story about a winning high school cross-country coach and his battle with ALS. The festival also includes informative seminars and workshops about the film industry. At the West Orange Cinema 5 in Ocoee. www.centralfloridafilmfestival.com
YOUNG LOVE
Through 9/1
Theatre UCF presents the charming off-Broadway musical hit The Fantasticks. The play follows Luisa and Matt (pictured, Leigh Green and Salvatore Vieira), whose well-meaning parents trick them into falling in love by staging a feud between the families—including hiring actors to kidnap Luisa so Matt can heroically rescue her. See why this engaging show is the world’s long-est-running musical.  theatre.ucf.edu
POETIC PORTRAITS
Through 10/27
Explore Ursula Schwartz’s unique South African perspective at the Albin Polasek Museum and Sculpture Gardens in Winter Park. Her exhibit, Awakening: The Art of Ursula Schwartz, presents large-scale oil paintings with bold colors and an interesting twist: each painting is paired with a poem written by Schwartz and her son. It’s an elegant collection emphasizing strength and vulnerability, beauty and modern femininity. http://www.polasek.org/
