Color Trends

It’s all about color—grey is the new black, and we’re still crazy for navy and metallics. These hot color trends will be appearing liberally throughout weddings this year. Natural tones of charcoal, dove, oyster and shell will appear with pops of vibrant colors like pinks, corals and shades of green. Navy and other deep shades of blue are also a popular choices for brides. And the fashion runways aren’t the only place you’ll see metallics—they’re making their way into every aspect of weddings and receptions. These neutral colors can be mixed and matched with any color palette. From bridesmaid dresses to tablecloths and overlays, you can incorporate any of these trendy hues into your wedding. Wedding Programs

Wedding Programs

I like to receive a program when I attend a wedding. It satisfies my curiosity about who the bride and groom have selected to have in their wedding party. Wedding programs have long been a staple for the wedding ceremonies, allowing guests to know the order of events and the attendants. I have seen some brides and grooms elect not to have programs, especially for non-traditional weddings or weddings in locations (like the beach) where a program isn’t conducive to the environment or occasion. I’ve also seen some that are lengthy, telling everything from how the bride and groom met to the upcoming menu at the reception. The key to a good program is balance. Make sure they offer enough information but their also short enough to keep guests focused on the event. In most cases,...

Wedding Cake Trends: Breaking the Mold

Wedding Cake Trends: Breaking the Mold

Wedding cakes are are an integral part of a wedding, symbolizing a couple’s lifelong commitment and serving as decorative focal points. Cutting the cake is full of tradition and one of the most photographed parts of a wedding. Luckily, modern weddings and the trends have embraced design, variety and even size.    Brides are going back to butter-cream icing; it tastes better than fondant and can still achieve some of the same looks. Publix Bakery (multiple locations in Central FL) has the best butter cream icing, and the deliciously affordable cakes also rival the beauty of some high-end specialty bakeries, too (Publix.com).      Forget the skyscrapers, wedding cakes are getting smaller. Scale has taken a back seat to style and personality. Sprinkles...

Bridesmaid Invitations

Bridesmaid Invitations

Bridesmaid invitations are a personalized and unique way to ask your friends to join your special day by being a bridesmaid. Most websites selling paper products and invitations offer this special type of invitation. My go-to place for one-of-a-kind items is Etsy.com. There are many handcrafted invitation options, my favorite pictured here, can also be personalized for maid of honor, flower girl, wedding party or even bachelorette. Or if you’re feeling creative, design and make your own bridesmaid invitations using pictures of you with each of your future bridesmaids. Another fun idea is to gather everyone for brunch to present your invitations. http://www.etsy.com/listing/62014257/bridesmaid-invitation-handmade-card-with

Wedding Shoes

Wedding Shoes

The right pair of shoes is almost as important as the perfect wedding dress. There are so many styles to choose from the decision can be difficult – even bedazzled tennis shoes, jeweled flats and beaded flip flops are among growing trends. But there are some things to consider when selecting shoes for wedding day. The height of your fiancé and the length of your gown traditionally dictate how high your heel should be. But if you’re a flats kind of gal, your wedding day probably isn’t the best time to break out into stilettos for the first time. Try to find shoes that complement your wedding dress and your theme. A contemporary pair of shoes may not go so well with a vintage-style gown. Get a clipping of your dress fabric so you can appropriately match the color...

Keep the Party Going

Keep the Party Going

Maximize your time with family and friends by keeping the party going after the reception has formally ended. A lot of couples are now hosting after-parties, especially if they have earlier weddings and have many out-of-town guests. After parties can be at the reception site or an alternate location. You can set up a cognac bar, put out coffees or cappuccinos, and get cordial cigars for men to create a lounge-like experience, or you can offer an after-hours menu and dancing with a DJ to keep the party atmosphere going. This will give brides the opportunity to switch into something sassier, and friends and family can celebrate all night long.

Candy Buffet Tables

04/01/11

Candy Buffet Tables

A candy buffet table is a hot new trend at wedding receptions. It’s easy to pull together, inexpensive, and a whimsical way to incorporate favors and an interactive element to your reception. Here are a few tips for making a candy extravaganza that’s classy and sophisticated, but also a lot of fun.    Choose candy colors that coordinate with your wedding theme and either match or complement your color palette. Think about location of your table and temperature when choosing your sweet treats – chocolate truffles may melt too fast in outdoor heat. Use varying shapes, sizes, colors and textures of candy and display them in variably sized containers  – this adds interest to the display, along with layering and lifts. Use fine linens and trimmings...
